Welcome to Bird Paradise: From Penguins to Emus, Having Fun at a Bird-Only Zoo @ Kakegawa, Shizuoka
Nestled in the outskirts of Kakegawa city, Shizuoka, lies a hidden gem for bird enthusiasts – “Kakegawa-Kachoen(掛川花鳥園),” a well-established bird-only zoo that will captivate the hearts of all bird-loving people. Whether you’re a bird lover or not, this place is sure to leave you in awe.
Upon entering, you’ll be warmly greeted by a group of quiet owls, observing you with their piercing eyes, making for a charming encounter.
Next, you pass the hyperactive penguins and find yourself in the main flower house/cafeteria. From there, the route diverges into different bird domes.
The beauty of Kakegawa-Kachoen lies in the birds freely roaming around you as you walk into their natural habitats. Surprisingly, the domes are clean and don’t have the typical zoo smell. Many of the birds, such as parakeets, toucans, and flamingos, are free-range and might even come up to you, offering a wonderful opportunity for the perfect photo.
The diverse array of birds will amaze you; some will be familiar, while others might be new discoveries for you.
Parrots and parakeets flock freely in the domes, creating a colorful spectacle.
The emus, with their wild appearance, add an extra touch of excitement to the experience.
As closing time approached, we realized that there was still so much to explore. Amidst kids running around and couples enjoying their time, the atmosphere was delightful. This unexpected find quickly became one of our favorite spots in rural central Japan.
